Florida Veterinary Hospital was built in the 1970’s and was specifically designed as a fully equipped small animal hospital. Along the years the hospital has evolved and modernised. It remains the largest veterinary hospital on the West Rand complete with modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment with a dedicated veterinary team passionate about delivering excellent clinical care. Our vision has always been to provide up to date veterinary medicine in a professional, friendly and affordable manner.

The Veterinarian Team

Our veterinary team is fully registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) and conforms with their CPD (Continued Professional Development) requirements through attending congresses, lectures, talks and product launches to stay up to date with the rapidly evolving world of veterinary medicine. We are members of the South African Veterinary Association (SAVA) and the National Veterinary Clinicians Group (NVCG) which organize ongoing educational talks and congresses and provides guidelines and articles to bring new techniques and treatments to our attention.

Dr. Akram Kader

Dr. Kader is a dedicated veterinary professional who graduated from Onderstepoort in 2022. After completing his CCS, he gained valuable experience auditing poultry and pig facilities. His lifelong passion for animals began at a young age, and by the time he was 5 years old, he knew he wanted to become a veterinarian. Pet owners can trust that their beloved companions are in caring and capable hands with this passionate young professional.

Dr. Menante
Van Niekerk (Botha)

My name is Menante van Niekerk, but everyone calls me, Dr. Botha, by my maiden name. I am married to a wonderful man, Hendrik and we have two miniature French poodles called Lizzy and Klara. I qualified at Onderstepoort in 2014 and worked in a small town in the Eastern Cape before joining Florida Veterinary hospital in 2018. Growing up we used to go to my grandparent’s dairy farm every school holiday. One year close to Christmas late at night grandad and I went out to see if Penelope, his best producer, was ready to deliver her calf but we found that she was in severe discomfort. We phoned the vet and when he arrived helped her deliver the most beautiful little heifer. Both Penelope and the baby were alive and well and I got to name her Stephanie. My goal with every patient visit is for the pets to be pain free and healthy and for their owners to understand how to take care of their pets in the best possible way. My motto in life: Always do your best in everything you do!
